Free PSA blood tests were part of this year’s events at the Alaska State Fair thanks to Cancer Screening Day, sponsored by Aurora Integrated Oncology Foundation in collaboration with Alaska Health Fair. PSA stands for Prostate-specific antigen and is the standard test for detecting abnormalities of the prostate gland.
The free test was offered to fair attendees over 40 and more than 130 blood samples were drawn in the single-day event. UsToo volunteers Stephen Ranger, Larry Schuller, Keith Guyer, Mark Dixson, Mike Zoske, and Bill Bredar helped staff the check-in and were on hand to answer questions and encourage discussing test results with participants’ doctors.
Given the rousing success of this year’s inaugural event, planners are already discussing how to make this an annual part of the fair. Thanks to our strong volunteers for their efforts!
